Ready to discover genealogy gold?

Experienced genealogist and former CGS Board of Director, Lisa Gorrell, will assist you on our 2020 Salt Lake City Research Trip to the Family History Library,  the top genealogy library in the nation! 


We have limited space. It is first come-first serve. 



  • Hotel room – 7 nights at the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel, located at 122 West South Temple (Next door to the Family History Library)
  • Shuttle service to and from airport
  • Three group dinners
  • Orientation and lectures
  • Research assistance at the library & computer assistance using the online catalog at & other websites
  • Optional consultation prior to the trip



Sunday: Participants arrive in Salt Lake City; “Get-acquainted” group dinner

Monday: Brief morning library orientation; Research

Tuesday through Saturday: Research

Wednesday evening: Group dinner

Saturday evening: “Wrap-up” group dinner

Sunday: Participants depart for home



Lisa S. Gorrell, is a Certified Genealogist®, who has led four previous trips to the Family History Library for CGS. She has researched at the library yearly for the past twenty years and enjoys helping others with their research. She has experience with Mid-west, Southern, and Western states research, and some areas of English, Swedish, and German research. She presents to local genealogical societies and teaches genealogy at the Acalanes Unified High School District Adult School. 



  • Prior to February 1, 2020: $940 per person, double occupancy*; $1,400 for a single room; $510, no hotel
  • After February 1, and up to April 15, 2020: double occupancy per person $1000*; single occupancy $1550; $550, no hotel.
  • Payment is due in full at time of registration

* There is no guarantee that another double can be found. If no other double is found for a share, the price will be at the single rate.



  • Airfare is not included in the price
  • Non-members must become a CGS member before registering for this trip



All cancellations must be made in writing and must be received before April 15, 2020 to have your payment returned. If cancellation is received after April 15, 2020 your payment less $250 will be returned. Cancellations on or after May 10, 2020, no refund will be given. (It is suggested that you obtain trip insurance if you feel cancellation is a possibility.) If the tour is cancelled due to lack of participation all fees will be refunded.



The California Genealogical Society shall not be held liable for any loss or damage to property. Additionally, the CGS will not be liable for any loss, damage, or injury caused by strikes, weather, illness, or any other cause beyond its reasonable control.

The society offers research services, online indexes and databases, and a research library housing over 38,000 reference materials from California, the United States, and around the world. CGS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. The library is conveniently located in Uptown Oakland, one block north of the Paramount Theatre, at 2201 Broadway, Suite LL2. We are three blocks from the 19th Street BART Station.
