Event description
Celebrate the 2020 Book Awards Winners at a virtual event hosted by the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

About this Event

Join us for the Annual Phi Beta Kappa Book Awards, held virtually for the first time ever!

The Phi Beta Kappa Book Awards are given annually to outstanding scholarly books published in the United States.  Winning works, which are drawn from the fields of the humanities, the social sciences, the natural sciences, and mathematics, must be of broad interest and accessible to the general reader.

The Book Awards Event gives Phi Beta Kappa members an opportunity to hear remarks by these winning authors as well as participate with a panel discussion with the authors and Phi Beta Kappa Secretary/CEO Frederick M. Lawrence.  This year the event is free and open to all.

Join us as we honor the following authors and books:

The Christian Gauss AwardWhat We Talk About When We Talk About Books: The History and Future of Reading by Leah Price, Basic Books

Phi Beta Kappa Award in ScienceArchaeology From Space: How the Future Shapes Our Past by Sarah Parcak, Henry Holt and Co.

The Ralph Waldo Emerson AwardPolicing the Open Road: How Cars Transformed American Freedom by Sarah Seo, Harvard University Press

Receive priority access, a copy of a winning publication, and other benefits throughout the year by joining the Secretary's Circle
