Join us for the 2020 Arizona Division of Problem Gambling Symposium -

“Problem Gambling - the Hidden Addiction Responding to Community Needs and Spotlighting Military Personnel and Families.”

Symposium will feature Dr. Kevin McCauley, Herman “Gus” Diggs Ph.D., and Brianne Doura:

Kevin McCauley, MD is a graduate of Drexel University College of Medicine (formerly the Medical College of Pennsylvania). He was a U.S. Naval Flight Surgeon for HMH-363 Red Lions Marine Heavy Helicopter squadron and VMFAT-101 Sharpshooters fighter/attack training squadron. He was the Director of Le Mont Michel, a sober living/recovery management program in Sandy, Utah from 2009-2013, he is the Senior Fellow for The Meadows treatment program, and is a co-founder of the Institute for Addiction Study. His DVD “Pleasure Unwoven” won the 2010 NAATP Michael Q. Ford journalism award. He is currently a graduate student in Public Health at the University of Utah. Dr. McCauley became interested in the problem of addiction after witnessing the success of the Navy’s program for treating pilots with alcohol problems. He advocates strongly for the rights of recovering persons as patients and as valued members of society.

Herman “Gus” Diggs earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from Southern Illinois University in 2014. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Veterans Affairs Maryland Healthcare System/ University of Maryland Consortium followed by a postdoctoral fellowship specializing in addictive behavior at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center. While on postdoc, he worked in the Gambling Treatment Program (formerly Brecksville), the first residential gambling treatment program in the VA/DOD. Dr. Diggs subsequently served as the PTSD-Substance use disorder psychologist at the Charles George Asheville VAMC, until he recently joined the Kernersville VA health care center as the psychology program manager. Dr. Diggs has a background in Motivational Interviewing, Motivational Enhancement therapy, mindfulness-based interventions and cognitive behavioral therapy for gambling disorders, and he is a VA regional trainer for CBT for substance use disorders. He is also trained in cognitive processing therapy and prolonged exposure for the treatment of trauma-related disorders.

Brianne Doura is the Legislative Director for the National Council on Problem Gambling. Previously, Brianne served as Director of Policy and Communications for the Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling. Prior to her time at the MA Council, she was Associate Director of Operations & Development at the National Association of Development Companies (NADCO) in McLean, Virginia.
