The GWHS Alumni Association is pleased to present the 2020 Alumni Awards Banquet, featuring 3 Hall of Merit inductions. It's going to be a great evening you won't want to miss! All inductees are scheduled to attend. Master of Ceremonies Alumni President John Rothmann. Doors open at 6pm, dinner service 7pm.


The Hall of Merit inductees are:

- Connie Young Yu S‘59, who has been one of the country’s most respected spokespersons on Chinese-American history and heritage, devoting herself to the research, writing, and telling the story of Chinese exclusion in the United States, the role of Angel Island in Chinese immigration exclusion and the preservation of its detention barracks, the contributions of the Chinese in building the West, the numerous pioneer Chinatowns in California, the building of the Central Pacific portion of the Transcontinental Railroad by the Chinese, and gave the opening speech at the 150th anniversary commemoration of the Golden Spike ceremony which joined the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads at Promontory Point, Utah, on May 10, 2019,

- Jan Huly S‘66, a 37-year USMC veteran who commanded the Marine Detachment on USS Ranger (CV-61), was Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, commanded Marine units and forces in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Somalia; his stateside assignments included overseeing recruitments in San Diego, serving with the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington DC, overseeing deployments at Camp Lejeune, managing personnel at Marine Corps HQ, and more; he retired in 2007 with the rank of Lt.Gen., and

- Darren Chan ’89, the San Francisco Giants' radio broadcasting on-site Producer/Engineer since 2017; for 17 years prior he was on-site Producer/Engineer for the L.A. Lakers at Staples Center and Anaheim Angels at home and on the road, and the Angels honored him with a 2002 World Series ring for his achievements; he started his media career at KNBR in 1990 and was Sports Director/Executive Producer for the launch of KNBR’s sister station “The Ticket 1050.”
