Description

An inspiring worksite wellness event
Join us for a day of learning and inspiration at the Worksite Wellness Summit – West. Learn how to start or improve a workplace wellness movement, improve workplace morale and productivity, and hear moving keynote presentations about empathy, understanding and mental well-being.

Keynote Speakers

Kevin R. Briggs

  • Retired California Highway Patrol sergeant whose ability to “listen to understand” encouraged more than 200 individuals not to go over the Golden Gate Bridge’s rail or to come back to solid ground.

  • International crisis management, suicide prevention and leadership skills presenter and author of “Guardian of the Golden Gate: Protecting the Line Between Hope and Despair”

  • Story featured as a TED Talk and via Ciudad de Las Ideas (Mexico), NBC’s Access Live, Yahoo News, The New Yorker Magazine, Men’s Health Magazine, NPR’s Bob Edwards Radio Show, People Magazine and USA Today, as well as other magazines, newspapers, radio and podcasts across the world.

Presentation | Maintaining a Healthy Work Environment

The first presentation of the day will focus on trauma. Learn about trauma’s effects in the workplace, compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma and moral injury. Kevin will share signs presented by an individual who may be in crisis, and how to communicate with someone in crisis. He will also share the RELEASE model for working with those individuals.

Presentation | You Matter: Self-Awareness and Your Health

In this presentation, we will learn the impact stress hormones have on our health, the “Quality of Life Triad”—Kevin’s guide to maintaining a healthy lifestyle—as well as how to effectively communicate with our peers using active listening skills (and we will practice our new skills!).

Kevin R. Briggs, Guardian of the Golden Gate

Rory Beil

  • Health promotion manager for Clay County Public Health.

  • Oversees efforts to improve mental well-being, awareness of the impacts of childhood trauma, access to healthy food and physical activity, and tobacco-free policies.

  • Previous director of CassClayAlive, a community initiative striving to improve the food and physical activity environments in Cass and Clay Counties.

Presentation | Understanding Childhood Adversity and What It Means to You as an Employer

Our childhood experiences inform how we see the world as adults. Learn more about what adverse childhood experiences are, their frequency and potential impact, and what we can do as employers to help those employees thrive.
