Event description

Description

Our 7th annual Super Casual Woodcocks & Cocktails BYOB event. You'll have a chance to hear and, hopefully, see Woodcock performing their courtship flights at dusk in the fields at Rushton Woods Preserve. We'll provide the mixers, light fare, and soft drinks (and Woodcock).

We'll even have a special guest speaker this year: Andy Weik, wildlife biologist with the American Woodcock Society (AWS). More about Andy is below.

Bring your binoculars and warm clothes.

Families are welcome! Please provide name information for all family members attending when you register.

Please note: This event is Rain or Shine. However, unsafe conditions due to unseasonable snow or cold could cause cancellation. If we must cancel, we will make every effort to notify all registered attendees.

This event is limited to 50 attendees. Registration is $25 (plus online processing fees) for each adult. Children 17 and under are free, however each child must be registered. See ticket ordering.

Here's the schedule for the evening, starting in the Rushton Conservation Center:

  • 5:30 - 6:00 Light fare provided, BYOB

  • 6:00 - 6:30 Guest Speaker, Andy Weik

  • 6:30 - 7:30 We'll go outside in Rushton Woods Preserve for woodcock viewing in the field

Guest Speaker Andy Weik

Andy is a wildlife biologist with the American Woodcock Society (AWS). He is responsible for implementing the Societies’ on-the-ground forest management, landowner and land manager education programs throughout New York, New England, eastern Canada, and the Lower Mississippi Valley. Prior to AWS, Andy had worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as forest wildlife biologist at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge in eastern Maine, where he was responsible for the Forest Wildlife Habitat Program on over 7,000 acres, as well as conducting woodcock and waterfowl banding and research. Prior to that, Andy was leader of the Migratory and Upland Game Bird Program for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Andy has degrees in wildlife management and forestry from the University of Maine and Cornell University.
