Since the passage of SF111, Wyoming's Community Colleges have been working to learn the ABC's of the applied baccalaureate degree.

About this Event

This conference will bring in experts from across the country who can share lessons learned from other states, outline the requirements for accreditation, explore the true costs of the applied baccalaureate and allow participants to hear first hand from industry and policy makers - truly, the ABC's of the applied baccalaureate!

8:30 -10:00 Costs to the Colleges – Data and Outcomes to lead to Informed Decision Making

The Community College Baccalaureate Association (CCBA) strives to promote better access to the baccalaureate degree on community college campuses, and to serve as a resource for information on various models for accomplishing this purpose. 10:00-11:30 Requirements to Accreditation and Why Wyoming Has a Unique Opportunity

The Higher Learning Commission is the accrediting body for all four-year and community colleges across the nation. HLC will discuss what is needed for the community colleges to move to a four-year degree granting institution, lessons learned from other states, outline the process and who is involved, and discuss the role of the legislature? Noon speaker – 12-1:30 Lessons Learned from Other States

This session presents key findings from a new national study focusing on adoption of applied baccalaureate degrees by community and technical colleges. The presenter will highlight what’s happening in states that are new adopters (e.g., Missouri and Ohio), potential adopters, and mature adopters (e.g., Florida and Washington). Important developments on institutional support for baccalaureate degree programs and student enrollments, completion and employment will be discussed, including issues surrounding geography, program (occupational) foci, and program approval. 3:00- 4:30 How the Applied Baccalaureate Ties into Meeting the Attainment Goals for Wyoming

Wyoming’s educational attainment goal is to achieve 67% by 2025 and 82% by 2040 of Wyoming's working population 25 - 64 years who possess a valuable post-secondary credential (certificate or degree). The Higher Education Attainment Council is working with the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) and others to determine how we meet that goal.
