USU Extension, Weber County
Welcome to registration for the 2019 Utah State University Extension Master Gardener Program in Weber County. Its purpose is to develop a network of trained volunteers who can provide Utah communities with unbiased, research-based horticultural education and technical assistance in gardening and home horticulture. You'll receive 14 weeks of college-level lecture and hands-on training taught by Utah State University Extension Specialists and Extension Faculty in the following areas:
- Basic Botany
- Soils and Fertilizers
- Irrigation
- Fruits and Vegetables
- Trees, Shrubs and Flowers
- Weed Science
- Entomology
- Integrated Pest Management
- Turfgrass
- Landscape Design
With completion of the training, USU Master Gardeners are required to provide a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service back to their community.

The 2019 program can admit up to 30 persons and has an entry fee of $235, which also includes a complimentary USU Botanical Center/Ogden Botanical Gardens Membership for you.

Larry Sagers Master Gardener Scholarships are available. Please read the following carefully.
If you would like to apply for the Larry Sagers Master Gardener Scholarship Award ($200 towards course fee), you must still register but as a Stand-By Applicant. Your fee will be a nonrefundable $35.

You must completely fill out this form, print/save, then follow directions on the form to get it to the Scholarship Award Office by January 4th, 2019.
You will be notified the following week and then, if awarded, your registration will be complete. If not awarded, you must finish your registration by January 16, 2019.
Please note: “The Sagers Master Gardener scholarship awards a total of $1000 statewide to enrollees with the greatest determined need AND their ability to demonstrate on the application their ability and willingness to help move USU Extension programming forward with their volunteer service. Applicants to the course must attend the following:

Orientation on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, from 6-7 pm at the Extension Office. This consists of a question and answer session, distribution of materials, also clarification of course background and content.
And then they can attend:

Master Gardener classes held on Wednesdays beginning January 30, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., until May 1, at the Weber County Extension Office.

Graduation for the class will be in November 2019.
The requirements for certification include the following:

Attend a minimum of 12 of the classes

Complete all given assignments.

Provide at least 40 hours of volunteer community service, with 20 or more of those hours completed at the Ogden Botanical Gardens.
