Why Liver Screenings at a Heart Fair?
Heart and liver disease are often caused by similar underlying conditions or risk factors. These include having high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or being overweight. In addition to putting patients at risk for heart disease, these conditions also increase risk of fatty liver disease which may cause inflammation and scarring of the liver. Hepatitis C, a viral infection of the liver, can potentially worsen the outcomes of heart disease, while curing Hepatitis C improves the outcomes. Given the close relationship between heart and liver, we are offering free screening for Hepatitis C and fatty liver disease at our upcoming community event.
