Event description

Description

The 2019 tour features hempcrete and straw bale homes, energy efficient new construction, a live energy assessment, a historic home and barn, and a tiny home. Guests will be able to walk a 1-mile loop through the Brooklyn neighborhood to visit all homes in a self-paced format with knowledgeable local experts on hand to answer questions.

Check in and pick up your tour wrist band and map of homes at the Howelsen Ice Complex from 1 - 3 p.m. (look for the YVSC tent outside the doors to the ice arena). Tickets will be sold the day of the event, but purchase yours early and save $5! Early bird pricing ends September 19.

This year’s tour includes the following homes and educational stops:

  • Alternative construction stops with beautiful hempcrete and straw bale homes that stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter
  • Two energy efficient, newly constructed homes with simple footprints, highly efficient thermal envelopes, secondary dwelling units and more
  • Preserved 1930 home listed on the Routt County Historic Registry
  • Live demo of a residential energy assessment by local certified energy auditors--learn what an assessment entails and how you can improve your home's energy efficiency with the results
  • Restored historic livery barn on River Road
  • Electric vehicles and a tiny home on wheels will also be on display

All proceeds from the tour benefit YVSC and support the organization's work to reduce our community's collective carbon footprint.
