2019 SHPE Twin Cities Scholarship and Professional Gala

Date: Friday, May 3rd, 2019

SHPE Twin Cities would like to invite you to the 2019 Professional and Scholarship Gala event. This event is our 8th annual professional gala, which includes our annual scholarship awards presentation to High school seniors and college students from STEM fields. During this event, SHPE-TC will be awarding $10,000 worth of scholarships to deserving Latino/Hispanic engineering students on behalf of our sponsors Hormel Foods, Jamf, Boston Scientific, and Eaton Corporation.

Event Speaker:

This year we are proud to feature Maria Regan Gonzalez. Maria is part of a movement to change the face of politics as the first Latina Mayor in the state of Minnesota. Maria leverages her passion and voice to help Minnesota’s mainstream institutions include more voices and create equitable outcomes for all in her roles as mayor and as a Senior Program Manager in Community Health and Health Equity at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota. In 2018, Maria successful ran uncontested to become the Mayor of Richfield.

Recognized as a 2018 Changemaker by the Minnesota Women’s Press, Maria is committed to advancing racial and social justice issues by bringing people together to improve health outcomes and create more equitable systems and policies. Maria is known for her authentic communication style and connecting the needs of the community to corporate strategy and local government.

Among her achievements Maria is most proud of her role as a co-founder of La Red Latina de Educacion Temprana, a network of over 250 Spanish speaking childcare providers working to change Minnesota's early childhood system and grow healthy and school ready children. Maria is currently finish her Master’s of Public Health from the University of Minnesota.

Event Dress code and details:

Business Professional or cocktail attire is required. This event has limited seating, No tickets will be sold at the door.

Event Agenda:

6:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. - Cocktail Hour: Join us for music, appetizers and drinks before the ceremony

7:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. - SHPE Gala Dinner

8:00 P.M. – 8:30 P.M. - Scholarship Awards Presentation

8:30 - 10:30 pm - Live Music by Salsa del Soul: Join us for live music by the local Twin Cities band “Salsa del Soul”.

Venue Description:

The Gale Mansion is a beautiful historic mansion located just south of downtown Minneapolis. Built in 1912, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2011 the Gale Mansion remodeling project was one of the eight building project awards recognized by Preserve Minneapolis, the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission, and the Minneapolis chapter of the American Institute of Architects.


Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Under age (less than 18 years old age) minors must be accompanied by an adult, either a teacher or a parent.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

SHPE Twin Cities will cover the cost of valet parking if you drive. There is also on-street parking available nearby, as well as Metro Transit bus service (routes #2 and #11).

I would like a vegan and/or gluten-free meal, how can I request that?

Please email all requests to president@shpetwincities.org with your request for a vegan and/or gluten free meal request by end of day Friday April 19th.

What's the refund policy? Can I update my registration information? Or is my ticket transferrable?

Unfortunately we cannot offer refunds. You can transfer your ticket to another person. Any name change is considered a ticket transfer. Please provide name changes 24 hours advance notice.

What if I'm an awardee, do I need to buy a ticket?

Scholars are not required to buy tickets and are allowed to bring 1 guest. Please email Manuel Millan at external@shpetwincities.org for confirmation

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

It is not necessary to bring your printed ticket to the event, just bring some form of ID.
