2019 JUAREZ CANYON BBQ SHOWDOWN - FROM HOST JIM CISNEROS: This will be the 10-year anniversary of the BBQ Showdown in Juarez Canyon. We started with a $2500 prize purse in 2010 and it has now grown to $10,000, all of which comes from our sponsors. Sponsors receive exclusive tickets to the Saturday Sponsor Day event as part of their benefits. Your support of the Saturday Sponsor Day is what drives the prize pool of our competition BBQ event.

To be fair to all of the teams that enter our main BBQ category event, this year I ask that ALL TEAMS MUST ENTER ALL 4 SIDES IN THE SATURDAY SIDE CATEGORY EVENT to be eligible for the main BBQ category event.

Competition space has been limited to around 25 teams, and in the early years the teams could cook enough extra meat we provided to feed the smaller amount of sponsors.Now days with the additional sponsors who make up the $10K prize purse, it's more difficult for our teams to be able to feed the larger sponsor group.

To help teams enter the 4 sides on Saturday Sponsor Day, an automatic $25 will be given to all teams, plus 5 lbs. of Russet or Golden potatoes, and 5 lbs. of Bacon will be provided for teams to use. This year an additional $50 bonus will be given to teams who provide all 4 side event category extras (it doesn't have to be exactly what is turned into the judging room, but something that fits that category) to the Saturday Sponsor Day tasting tables.

The tasting tables are for the vast majority of our sponsors who cannot be officially seated in the judging room for the side category competition awards and prize purse. The sponsors along with the prize purse they provide has grown over the last 10 years and we know it's a lot to ask from the teams to support that. We strive to show our appreciation to the teams and their support for our charity event benefiting La Salle High School Sports and Wounded Warrior Project with a welcoming bag, beer taps open starting Friday afternoon with pizza, Saturday buffet dinner with live music, and Sunday pancakes with biscuits and gravy breakfast.

Our facility space is limited and the event is at maximum size, so we ask the teams to limit their space and team members to 5. Extra help must have passes and we can't provide space for teams extra cars and RVs in the patron parking area. Last years teams can have the same space, new teams in a 20X20 area.

Jean and I would like to thank the PNWBA and all the teams who have been here over the years. We had no idea our event would turn into what it has become today with a lot of good food and great people. Every team must have a 2A 40 BC or 3A 40 BC fire extinguisher with a current inspection tag or a current receipt. Current means less than 1 year old! Check your fire extinguisher before arriving!
