Individuals Motivating People to Achieve Change Together (IMPACT SC) is the state wide self advocacy council in South Carolina.  IMPACT SC members believe in encouraging positive change for people and working together to enhance lives.  IMPACT SC is proud to announce their statewide conference, "Independence:  My Choices, My Life" on May 23, 2019.  This conference is for self-advocates, parents, and professionals to gain the tools that will help them become more independent.  Deadline to register is April 1, 2019.

"The Power of You:  Tools for Developing Independence and Self-Determination"     

This session will help participants understand self-determination and learn the tools needed to be independent in the community.  Dori Tempio, Director of Community Outreach and Consumer Rights, Able SC

"The South Carolina ABLE Savings Program"

The presenter will explain the benefits of owning an ABLE account and the eligibility requirements to have an account.  Participants will learn how to enroll in the program and how to use the funds on the ABLE account.  Karen Crider, Program Manager, SC ABLE Savings Program

"What is Assistive Technology?"

This presentation will demonstrate how assistive technology can make things possible for people with disabilities to become more independent in their work, home, and the community.  Tammy Wallace, Program Coordinator, SC Assistive Technology Program


"My Life as a Self-Advocate"

The presenter will share his personal story of how he became a self-advocate.  The participants will learn the benefits of speaking up for themselves and how to conduct themselves as self-advocates.  Jonathan Pringle, IMPACT SC President

"Mythbusters:  How Going to Work Affects Your Benefits"

The presenter will identify the common misconceptions regarding how employment effects Social Security Disability Benefits and other federal, state, and local benefits.  Participants will understand work incentives offered and how they can help in their journey to employment.  Particpants will also learn how and when to seek out benefits counseling services.  Melissa Snyder, Lead Certified Work Incentives Coordinator, Able SC

 "Advocacy Builders"

 This interactive session will inspire the advocate builder in you! You will learn how to be a better advocate for others and a better self-advocate to impact your community. The presentation will also include information about the upcoming Advocacy Builder Award for 2020. "Person-Centered Planning:  Tools to Help You Make Choices for Your Life"

This session will help participants understand how person-centered planning can help them make choices for their lives and create goals for themselves.  Dori Tempio, Director of Community Outreach and Consumer Rights, Able SC

 "Growing Your Self-Advocacy Group"

This presentation will share strategies for recruiting members and creating materials to showcase your group.  Will Farrior, Program Assistant, SC Developmental Disabilities Council; Terone Manning, IMPACT Vice President

"DDSN:  Your Agency. Your Choices. Your Life."

This session will educate the participants on the services and supports available through the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs including residential, day, employment, education, case management, life planning and more.  The presenter will explain how DDSN protects their choices.  The participants will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding DDSN services.  Bill Simpson, Director of Residential and Respite, SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs

IMPACT SC Self Advocacy Council

IMPACT SC is South Carolina's statewide self-advocacy council for people with disabilities.   IMPACT SC's purpose is to provide self-advocates in South Carolina a way to meet with other self-advocates, not only in their state, but across the country in order to share ideas and support one another on issues that are important to people with disabilities.  Our mission is to encourage positive change for people with disabilities through working together to enhance lives while making a stand for change.
