Description

Honoring our Family Ancestry Heroes

This year our 8th Annual Sankofa Wax Museum of African-American History and Black History program will be a two- hour two part community event featuring a keynote speaker, performances, our Wax Museum, and more. The first hour will be the program of invited guests, followed by our signature Wax Museum of icons. The wax museum's focus will be our own family icons. We will highlight their positive and cultural impacts to our culture, our family, community, country and beyond. The featured family member should be born before 1950 (including generations of grandparents or greater, aunts, uncles, and cousins). Let's celebrate how they have impacted your life, held the family together, and/or have had noteworthy accomplishments.

Youth between the ages of 6 and 17 are invited to register and participate in the wax museum. NEW* - Children 5 years old and under can participate during the program in the Parade of Future Leaders dressed as an occupation of what they want to be when they grow up. They will say their name and the job when prompted. Registration is requested for them as well.

Family participation and research are strongly encouraged. Ancestry icons will be selected, researched and performed in costume. Exhibit boards will also be made to highlight their accomplishments with text, props, and photos with a brief (30 seconds) memorized oral presentation. Select your icon and begin your reseach now.
