Join us for the 13th Annual
Salt Lake County Watershed Symposium!

Free and open to all, the Watershed Symposium encourages a comprehensive review of the current state of our watershed while creating learning and networking opportunities for a diversity of stakeholders. Sessions cover a broad range of topics on water quality and watershed issues with local, regional, and national relevance.

The program

Check out the official event schedule and directory, powered by Sched.

Keynote speaker Jaimi Butler will share her work at the Great Salt Lake Institute at Westminster College, and how the lake can teach us about all levels of our watershed.

Reducing our carbon footprint

We've taken big steps in the last few years to host a more sustainable event. Every action counts.

  • Meatless menus. Eat less meat, save energy/emissions/water. We've planned two delightful vegetarian lunches.
  • Reduce single-use waste. Using real china, silverware, glasses, and cloth napkins for lunch.
  • Less paper. Via digital schedules, surveys, and the event app.
  • Group carpool. Sign up online and reduce your emissions.
  • Food rescue. Leftovers will be donated to a local non-profit.
  • Recycling. Lots of strategically placed bins.
  • Useful swag. Hope you get a lot of use out of the 2019 gift!

What people are saying...

"The Symposium is tremendously important to the future of all of Utah." ~Zach Frankel, Utah Rivers Council

"As a member of the public with no particular affiliation to any of the groups represented at the conference, I was simply blown away by the professionalism and dedication of virtually everyone I met. I learned a lot, and came away energized and looking forward to doing what I can to help remediate/preserve our local watersheds."

"This is one of the best opportunities to network and build partnering relationships toward supporting a healthier watershed. The free admission and food makes it possible for all to attend and its timely content makes it appealing to an interesting cross-section of professions and disciplines."

"Great location/facility, topics, presentation structure, opportunity to engage with fellow professionals and community. Seriously one of the best, well-run conferences I've ever attended."

"We are all in this together and we need to engage in opportunities for sharing and building connectivity so that we can effectively address the critical and timely needs that exist in our watershed given our growth projections and never ending need to build awareness." ~Lynn DeFreitas, FRIENDS of Great Salt Lake
