Event description

Description

This will be the 21st year the Greater Tulsa Association of REALTORS (GTAR) and Tulsa Area Fair Housing Partnership (TAFHP) have organized this important cost-free training for local real estate professionals, leasing professionals, and rental managers.

The purpose of this summit is to provide attendees with a review of current fair housing law and update them on changes to fair housing laws; inform licensees of potential problems with the Medical Marijuana law in Oklahoma; and give an update on Constitutional Carry gun laws effective November 1, 2019.

Pertinent Laws and Regulations, including state and federal Fair Housing Law, will be briefly summarized in the introduction/overview segment.

Medical Marijuana – With the passing of the use of medical marijuana in the state of Oklahoma, Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc. will lead discussion focused on how possessing a medical card affects housing issues.

Update on Constitutional Carry Gun Laws – Current topic of interest in the rental industry as renters and managers of commercial properties must decide how to address this new law taking effect November 1, 2019. A spokesman from the Department of Justice will answer questions.

Lease Contract Training Some tenants do not understand their rights and responsibilities laid out in the leasing contract. A representative from Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc. will discuss how to explain the lease contract to potential renters in order to clarify some common issues that lead to evictions and disagreements; they will discuss fair housing issues addressed in the contract.

Code Enforcement Panel – A supervisor from Working in Neighborhoods at the City of Tulsa and Housing Program Coordinator from the Tulsa Health Department will lead a panel discussion to answer questions about procedures and requirements for housing and nuisance complaints in Tulsa.

The training will conclude with a panel of expert speakers from the earlier segments for an open, always lively, question and answer session.
