2019 Regional Ohio Peer Recovery Supporter Symposiums

Event Information

Event description

The P.E.E.R. Center

The 2019 Ohio Regional Peer Recovery Supporter Symposiums:

Educate vs. Instigate: How to teach without starting an argument

Have you ever tried to explain your job only to be met with hostility? When you describe your position, does it sometimes start an argument? How do you handle and defuse that anger?

This symposium brings together peer recovery supporters to help each other and share ideas on how to be more effective when advocating for individuals -- and for our joint cause to reduce stigma. We want to work together to educate our audiences, rather than instigate an argument.

You will get some tips on how not to take criticism personally, the most effective way to share your personal story, and more. The most common criticisms and questions will be discussed, and possible answers explored.
