Event description

Description

Join us for our annual Red Ribbon Luncheon: Empowering Children to Live Drug-Free. This year's event will be held at the Omni Colonnade on Thursday, October 31, 2019. Our keynote speaker will be SAM QUINONES, journalist, author, and storyteller. He worked as a freelance writer in Mexico from 1994 to 2004, while spending time with gang members and governors, to report on drugs infiltrating America. The author of several books, he is known for his book Dreamland: The True Tale of America's Opiate Epidemic. This book received a 2015 National Book Critics Award. It is the story of the evolving opioid epidemic in Mexico and the United States. Quinones decribes the "explosion in heroin use and how one small Mexican town changed how heroin was produced and sold in America." Now living back in Los Angeles, he has worked for the LA Times writing stories about immigrants, street gangs, drug trafficking, and marijuana.

DON'T MISS THIS GREAT SPEAKER!
