Event Details

The Rattan Wine Walk is back!

This year the walk takes you through the beautifully lit St. George Village Botanical Gardens while listening to extraordinary live classical music. The evening will be an elegant combination of food, wine, music and meandering.  This year we have the generous support of many of St. Croix's finest, The Bistro, Cafe Christine, Fusion teaming up with Angry Nates, Un Amore and USVI Culinary Amabassador Chef Ralph Motta all bring their fabulous fare that will be paired with wonderful wines supported by Bellows International, Prestige Wine Group and West Indies Corporation to stations located around the garden. The magnificent food and wine will be brought to the garden by Island Direct, who are helping bring all the essential pieces together for this wonderful night out.

As always, there will be fabulous silent auction prizes.

All proceeds from the event will go to support the Rattan Montessori School as well as support an effort to help light the Botanical Garden with solar powered lights, that we will all enjoy on the night but that will also become a permanent asset to the garden. As part of the program this year we have been blessed to have a wonderful Flautist, Deirdre McArdle Manning volunteering her time, joining us to both play on the evening but also to offer a free master classes to young talented local musicians who will work with her in the week running up to the event to create a magnificent musical program in the garden.

We look forward to welcoming you to the garden for a magical evening of music, light, food, fine wine and great company.

More about our special guest

Flutist Deirdre McArdle is the daughter of the noted American modernist painter, Patrick McArdle. With a background in theater, education and arts administration Ms. McArdle has served on the flute and Chamber Music faculty at Bowdoin College and Manhattan School of Music, her Alma Mater, and has given masterclasses and performances in Israel, Italy, France, and Ireland. She is the founder of the Winter Harbor Music Festival in Maine and the co-founder of Harbor Music, the Artur Balsam Ensemble Classes for Piano and Strings of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. An avid chamber music player she has given notable performances with members of the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the American Symphony Orchestra. An advocate of new music for the flute, Ms. McArdle has premiered solo and ensemble compositions dedicated to her by Tibor Serly, Elliott Schwartz, David Loeb, Robert Rohe, Daniel Paget and Phillip Thomas. Of her playing, Tim Page, Pulitzer Prize winning music critic of the New York Times, wrote that she “…produces an unusually full and lustrous sound from her flute…alternately languorous and darting,” in a program that was, “a brilliant challenge for a virtuosic flutist.” An active freelance musician in New York City, she also serves on the executive board of the New York Flute Club, and is a member of local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians and the American Society for Composers and Performers (ASCAP)

Deirdre McArdle's magical flute playing can heard in this short video https://youtu.be/dLcOl8Tz6zc clip from a program that she helps organize on the coast of Maine. It is hoped that this program may open up opportunities for some of our great upcoming island musicians to participate in masterclasses run by Deirdre McArdle in Maine in the summertime.
