Purees & Dips: Culinary Techniques to Boost Flavor and Increase Vegetable Consumption by Chef Wesley McWhorter, MS, RDN, LD, CSCS

Purées, dressings, dips, and salsas can transform a snack or meal adding tempting aromas and flavors. Chef Wesley will demonstrate multiple puréeing techniques to boost flavor while promoting plant-forward meals and increased vegetable, fruit, legume, and nut consumption. Participants will have the opportunity to try samples and practice the techniques in small groups with guided assistance. After the workshop, one attendee from each group will go home with the blender used during practice. Blenders provided by the culinary workshop partner, Blendtec. As a result of this workshop participants will be able to:

1. Discuss the role of puréeing techniques to promote plant-forward meals and increased vegetable, fruit, legume, and nut consumption.
2. Describe the benefits of puréeing technique on texture, flavor and palatability of nutritious foods.
3. Apply culinary nutrition concepts and skills in their practice.

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

For those attendees with hotel reservations at the Holiday Inn, please park in the hotel parking lot and walk across the street to the KSU Alumni Center, north of the hotel. For those without hotel accommodations, there are several parking stalls around the KSU Alumni Center. Another option is to park in the garage east of the Alumni Center, but you will be responsible for any parking fees on Thursday, April 11th.
