Purees & Dips: Culinary Techniques to Boost Flavor and Increase Vegetable Consumption by Chef Wesley McWhorter, MS, RDN, LD, CSCS

Wesley is the Culinary Nutrition Director of the Nourish Program and a Lecturer within the Dietetic Internship Program at the University of Texas School of Public Health (UTSPH) in Houston. He is a professionally trained chef, registered dietitian, and certified strength and conditioning specialist. His experience includes dietetics education, corporate wellness, school and hospital foodservice, fine dining, sport’s dietetics, and working as a private chef. He has earned degrees in culinary nutrition (AS), dietetics (BS), nutrition and metabolism (MS), and he is currently a DrPH candidate in behavioral sciences at UTSPH. Wesley teaches Culinary Medicine courses at the UTSPH, McGovern Medical School, Cizik Nursing School, and UTHealth School of Dentistry. His research interests are in closing the divide between culinary literacy and nutrition education and policy.

Culinary Workshop Agenda:

After tasting the samples and watching Chef Wes demonstrate five puree recipes, attendees will break out into small groups for hands-on practice of one of these recipes. After the workshop, one attendee from each group will go home with the blender used during practice.

FAQs

 

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

 

For those attendees with hotel reservations at the Holiday Inn, please park in the hotel parking lot and walk across the street to the KSU Alumni Center, north of the hotel. For those without hotel accommodations, there are several parking stalls around the KSU Alumni Center. Another option is to park in the garage east of the Alumni Center, but you will be responsible for any parking fees on Thursday, April 11th.
