About this Event

The Ukrainian National Federation Ottawa-Gatineau Branch invites you to participate in the 2019 Paul Yuzyk Institute for Youth Leadership Training Seminar taking place on October 26, 2019 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in the VIP Room at the Marconi Centre (1026 Baseline Road) in Ottawa.

This event will teach individuals how to survive in a highly-connected world, how to build skills for the future and how to meaningfully contribute to the Canadian community.

The full-day seminar will be facilitated by Eugene Roman, former Executive Vice President, Digital Excellence and Technology Advisor, for the Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC).

It will also feature guest speakers, Dr. Melania Buba, former President of UNF-OG, and Pediatric Hospitalist and Consulting General Pediatrician at CHEO, and Chrystia Chudczak, former public servant and currently the Chief Design Officer at the University of Ottawa, who will speak about their leadership experiences in their respective professions and in the community, and lessons they have learned.

Professionals and students are welcome to attend and participate in this full-day seminar.

10:05 AM - 11:05 AM - "How to survive in a highly connected world" - Perspective on the world we live in today

11:05 AM - 11:15 AM - Coffee Break

11:15 AM - 11:40 AM - Workshop "Skills for the future"

11:40 AM - 12:05 PM - Roundtable "What skills are important to you in a global village"

12:05 PM - 12:30 PM - Summary: what do leadership professionals say

12:30 PM - 12:50 PM - Lunch and introduction of lunch speakers

12:50 PM - 1:10 PM - Guest Speaker - Dr. Melania Buba, Pediatric Hospitalist and Consulting General Pediatrician at CHEO, and former President of UNF-OG

1:10 PM - 1:30 PM - Guest Speaker - Chrystia Chudczak, Chief Design Officer at the University of Ottawa

1:30 PM - 2:30 PM - Innovation, putting ideas into action and mentorship

2:30 PM - 2:40 PM - Coffee Break

2:40 PM - 3:10 PM - Roundtable "Good ideas vs bad ideas, how do you separate them?"

3:10 PM - 3:40 PM - Summary and ideas for follow-up

3:40 PM - 3:45 PM - Closing remarks

Lunch, snacks, drinks and coffee will be provided.

Free parking will be available at the Marconi Centre.

Please be sure to register for this event by October 20th, 2019. Registration is $10.00. Admission at the door without registration will not be permitted.

How can I register for this event?

Registration for this event is done through Eventbrite only. Please fill out the registration form with the necessary information and pay the $10 registration fee. The deadline to register for the event is October 20th, 2019 at midnight. Any late registrations may not be accepted. There will be no refunds for cancellations. However, you may transfer your ticket to another person if you are unable to attend. Please contact the organizers if you are planning to do so.

What if I will be late to the event?

Doors for the event will open at 9:00 am and the event will start at 10:00 am sharp, so please arrive by 9:30am. This is a professional event with speakers who have volunteered their time to be at the event and we need to be courteous and respectful of their time.

What is the Paul Yuzyk Institute for Youth Leadership?

Founded in 2009 by the Ukrainian National Federation of Canada (UNF) and the UNYF, the Paul Yuzyk Institute (PYI) for Youth Leadership takes it's inspiration from the life's work of Senator Paul Yuzyk (1913-1986). A Canadian Parliamentarian, Academic, Ukrainian Canadian Community Leader and Founder of the UNYF, he persevered through economic hardship and ethnic discrimination of his youth to pioneer the official recognition in 1971 of Canada as a multicultural country. The goal of the PYI is to train future generations of Canadian community leaders consistent with the vision of its founders.

What is the dress code for this event?

The dress code for this event is business casual. There will be Ukrainian Canadian professional and community leaders in attendance and you may want to make a good first impression in a respectful manner.
