Description

Registration is now open for the spring workshop sponsored by the New York State Associated Press Association and Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Communications on Saturday, March 2, 2019.

The daylong seminar, held in Syracuse, is designed for journalism students and professionals seeking to hone their skills and stay on top of the latest industry trends. The agenda includes training sessions and panels featuring experts on the fast-changing media landscape, critical thinking, online tools, creative storytelling, new skill sets and workplace conduct. The seminar begins at 8:45 a.m. -- with coffee and networking for early arrivals at 8:15 a.m. -- at the Newhouse School III, Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium on the Syracuse campus.

Among the speakers are renowned journalism trainer Al Tompkins of the Poynter Institute. Sessions include First Amendment discussions, spotting fake news, creative storytelling, a digital tools update and an important session on creating a respectful newsroom workplace for all staff.

Print, broadcast and multimedia news managers from across New York State will take part, and broadcast news directors will offer one-on-one résumé reel critiques.
