Description

The 2019 National Youth Poet Laureate will be announced. Regional Youth Poets Laureate Kara Jackson (Chicago, IL), Haviland Nona Gai Whiting (Nashville, TN), Jackson Neal (Houston, TX) Azura Tyabji (Seattle, WA) and Maren Wright-Kerr (Baltimore, MD) will participate. Event will be hosted by award-winning poet Mahogany L. Browne and feature Washington, D.C./Prince George's County Youth Poets Laureate. Presented in partnership with Urban Word.

Public reception will follow. Newly published National Youth Poet Laureate anthology by Penmanship Books will be available for purchase. All attendees will receive limited edition artwork featuring each finalist courtesy of Amplifier Foundation.




Tickets are required for entry to this event. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Entry is not guaranteed. Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of house management.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The best way to arrive is by public transportation. The closest metro stations are Capitol South (Blue/Orange/Silver Line—a two block walk) or Union Station (Red Line—a half-mile walk). Limited metered and two-hour zoned parking is available in surrounding neighborhoods. Public parking garages are also available, the largest residing at Union Station. What can/can't I bring into the event?

All visitors must pass through airport-like security to enter the Library. All personal items will be scanned, including jackets, purses, briefcases, etc. Please allow plenty of time to pass through security.
