Event description

Description

Join us for a a day of negotiation and problem-solving using the format of a Model UN crisis simulation! This is a training crisis simulation that is open to middle school students (grades 6-8) who are familiar with Model UN, but new to the crisis format. There will be all the fast-paced and unpredictability of a crisis simulation with explanations and guidance in strategy and tactics. Space is limited to 25 students per school/team, and we anticipate that this event will fill up quickly!

Location: The Crisis will take place at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University

Date/Time: Sunday February 10. The event will start at 9:00am and end at 3:30pm. Registration will open at 8:30am.

Costs: $100 per team (registration fee) and $65 per student (delegate fees). Once registered, the UNAGB will send an invoice for delegate fees to the faculty advisor.

There are partial scholarships for delegate fees for students for students attending Title I qualifying schools. Please contact UNAGB directly to learn more about these.

A few frequently asked questions:

What does it mean that this is an 'Intro to Crisis' simulation?

The day will begin with brief instructions about the 'how-to's' of crisis. Throughout the day the crisis team and chairs will make suggestions to the staff as necessary. During the faculty advisor meeting there will also be a training session for teachers and parent advisors about what takes place in crisis simulation and how to prepare students for them. It is appropriate for students at all levels of familiarity and experience as long as delegates understand that this is a training conference and that many participants will be participating for the first time.

I have 6th grade students, is this conference appropriate for them?

Perhaps! We believe that this conference is appropriate for advanced and independent 6th grade students who are ready for the academic and public speaking challenges of a full day of intense negotiation and debate.

Why is there a space limit of 25 students per team?

It's important that no one team dominates the space at this small conference. To ensure this, we are setting a limit of 25 students per team.

Will students work alone or in pairs?

Students will work in pairs and will find out their assigned role on the day of the event and. Students will be paired with students from the same schools.

How will students prepare for the crisis?

This is a no-prep conference! Students should be ready to engage in and discuss the topic when it is presented at the conference.

I have more questions, what's the best way to ask?

Please email Zenzele Best (zenzele.best@unagb.org) or call the UNAGB office at (617) 482-4587.

We hope to see you at the conference!
