Description

2019 MESC Annual Institute

Racial Equity and Museums: Creating Structures of Sustained Support for People of Color

***SOLD OUT****

****Unfortunately we are sold out and tickets will not be sold at the door****

The Annual Institute is MESC’s largest annual professional development event. This year, we invite educators and museum professionals from all backgrounds and career levels to examine the spaces we create within the field as we dialogue on how to create additional opportunities and structures of sustained support for people of color. Over the course of the half-day program, we will hear from distinguished speakers, work in small groups to imagine new practices, and make connections within the SoCal museum community. Morning snacks and pastries will be provided.

Registration required. $20 for MESC members, $35 for non-members, and scholarships available (see FAQs for more information).

About the Annual Institute

The program will begin promptly at 9:00AM. Please plan to arrive early to check-in before this time. Check-in and onsite registration open at 8:30AM.

This year’s Annual Institute will feature:

Panel Conversation with Q&A

Leaders in the museum field will discuss the current state of racial equity in the field and how they are working to advance it in their practice. This program is a continuation of last year's Annual Institute where we discussed Race, Ethnicity, and Cultural Hegemony in Museum Education. As inequity persists, so will the conversation and the action to disrupt it.

2019 MESC Annual Institute Speakers

Tyree Boyd-Pates, Curator of History at California African American Museum

Pilar Tompkins Rivas, Director at Vincent Price Art Museum

Kai Monet, Education Program Manager at Museum of Contemporary Art

Networking Opportunities

Breakout Sessions
