About the Author: Jim Popham

 W. James Popham is Emeritus Professor in the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies. He has spent most of his career as a teacher, largely at UCLA, where for nearly 30 years he taught courses in instructional methods for prospective teachers and graduate-level courses in evaluation and measurement.

About the Book: Assessment Literacy for Educators in a Hurry

What is assessment literacy? It’s a handful of fundamental understandings about the testing concepts and procedures that influence educational decisions. And it just might be the most cost-effective means of real school improvement.

With characteristic humor and aplomb, assessment expert W. James Popham strips away the psychometrician-speak and condenses the complexities of educational testing to six practical and action-oriented understandings about validity, reliability, fairness, score reporting, formative assessment, and affective assessment.

  • A $50 regisrtation fee, including a joint MAC Individual One-Year Membership + MAC Reads registration, this special pricing is only open until March 15, 2019.

Upon registration, information will be provided to guide participants to where to order the book and where to find the student guide.  Closer to the date of the virtual session with the author, a link will be shared with the lead of the group or to the individuals who registered on their own, to join the webinar. The team leader will organize the ordering/distributing of the books and communicating the schedule for book discussion date(s).  The group leader will set up a space where the team will gather for viewing the virtual session.

  • Individuals can register for the event. Individuals will need to order their own book, and use the ASCD study guide to guide their thinking as they read the book.  The link to the virtual session will sent to the individual closer to the date of the virtual session.
