Description

*Please note: The option to purchase a reception ticket appears only after you select your concert ticket.*

We are thrilled to announce that the Longwood Symphony Orchestra (LSO) has jointly selected our organizations — Greater Boston Physicians for Social Responsibility and International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War — as Community Partners in their Healing Art of Music Program. Founded in Boston in 1982, the LSO believes that music has the power to heal the soul and the community. Composed primarily of highly trained musicians who are also medical professionals, the LSO’s mission is to perform concerts of musical diversity and excellence, while supporting health-related nonprofit organizations.

Our concert will take place on the evening of Saturday, October 5th at the New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall, which seats over 1,000. The evening will provide an elegant occasion to honor Hiroshima bombing survivor and peace activist Setsuko Thurlow. The repertoire for the concert will be:

  • Mendelssohn, The Hebrides, op. 26 (Fingal's Cave)

  • Peter Maxwell Davies, An Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise op.120a [J.264]

  • Brahms, Symphony No. 1, op. 68, C minor

We will also be holding a reception with food and cocktails, including a presentation by Setsuko Thurlow, beforehand in Williams Hall, which is also located in the New England Conservatory, and begins at 5:30pm. Please note that the option to purchase a reception ticket appears only after you select your concert ticket. Reception attire is "business casual".
