The Institute for Social and Emotional Learning is delighted to offer our flagship Four-Day Institute in partnership with The American School in Japan, Tokyo from March 23-26, 2019.

The Institute

Each Institute brings together K-12 teachers, administrators and counselors from around the world for multiple days of sessions, collaboration, and reflection that range across a broad library of SEL topics and research.


  • Build a deep, experiential understanding of core SEL principles and practices.

  • Help educators cultivate in their teaching practice the humanity and empathy that can help them inspire students to evolve into compassionate leaders and resilient learners.

  • Inform an educator’s perspective in ways that help spark creativity and renew inspiration for teaching.

  • Strengthen an educator’s capacity to bring SEL to classroom and community in ways that transform a school.

- A comprehensive binder of SEL lesson plans, materials and research

- Healthy breakfast, lunch, snacks and refreshments every day (accommodation for different dietary needs)

- Joining an international network of educators committed to Social and Emotional Learning

Financial Aid

IFSEL is committed to empowering all educators to attend the Institute and we have Financial Aid programs to support this vision. Our deadline to apply is January 15, 2019 and please fill out our application form here.


We will email you a confirmation upon receipt of full payment. Please note that your participation will not be confirmed until we receive your full payment, either by credit card or by check.

CEU Information

Participants in IFSEL Events are eligible for CEU Credits from Dominican University. Participants completing the Institute are eligible for 2.0 Credits. If you are interested in applying, please let us know during the Institute. The application will then be sent to you after the Institute for you to submit to Dominican University, which administers the process. Please note that Dominican University charges a fee of $55 per CEU unit.

At this time, IFSEL is not able to provide credits for clinical counseling.

Refund Policy

One of IFSEL’s core values is to support schools and educators seeking professional development. We recognize that changes in plans can occur in the weeks leading up to our events.

With this in mind, registration fees will be refunded in the form of a check, less the $150 refund processing cost, if requested in writing by January 30, 2019. Between February 1, 2019 and March 23, 2019 refunds requested in writing will be granted at 50% of fees paid, less the $150 refund processing cost. No refunds are available after March 23, 2019.
