EL PASO, TEXAS – The El Paso Crohn’s & Autoimmune Disease Support Group will be hosting a symposium to educate patients, family members, health care providers and the general public about Irritable Bowel Diseases (IBD) such as Crohn’s as well as other autoimmune diseases, Resources will be available. This event will bring together experts in the field from Houston, Dallas and abroad to collaborate and share their knowledge with our community. According to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), approximately 1.6 million Americans currently have IBD. That number has grown by approximately 200,000 new patients since 2011. On average as many as 70,000 new cases are diagnosed in the U.S. each year. These diseases don’t only affect adults, there are as many as 80,000 children in the U.S. with IBD. The mission of El Paso Crohn’s & Autoimmune is to promote education in our community of Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) and their effects on the individual, as they are often referred to as the “invisible diseases.” The non-profit organization strives at mobilizing resources to encourage research for a cure and manageability. Moreover, organization provides hope to patients and families by bringing to them the best available resources and support by virtue of a multi-disciplinary approach through integrated clinical practice and education. In support of this effort, the city of El Paso has named March “El Paso Crohn’s & Autoimmune Disease Month.”
