Tips for Career Management for Administrative Professionals. 2:00 p.m.

The session will cover creating a professional development plan, how to create SMART goals and the benefits of having a career portfolio.

Presenter: Dr. Barrett Shaw. Barrett Shaw works as a Principal Administrative Specialist at Mission Support and Test Services in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has over 15 years of experience as an administrative professional in a government setting, particularly with Microsoft Office products and developing successful interpersonal relationships. Barrett also works as a trainer with Leoron Professional Development Institute, a training company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He teaches several courses on administrative skills, including prep courses for earning the CAP.

Barrett earned his doctorate in organizational leadership in 2014. His dissertation explored the relationship between the perceived emotional intelligence of a leader and employee engagement among administrative professionals. Barrett also holds a master of science in Psychology and a bachelor of art in Theater Arts.

Barrett has been an active member of IAAP since 2008. He currently serves as a Director on the IAAP Board. Upon joining IAAP, he was a charter member of the NTS Chapter, holding several officer roles before moving to the Division level. When the structure changed, he signed on as one of the first Branch Advisors, and held that role for 2 years.

In his free time, he enjoys traveling and spending time with his two children, Jacob (19) and Sylvia (14).

Are you still taking notes with pen and paper? This session will propel you into the digital age with an in-depth, hands-on, workshop of Microsoft OneNote. Lead by Certified Microsoft Office Specialist Master, Dawn Monroe, attendees will leave with all the basics to get started and lots of advanced tips to utilize digital notebooks in your day-to-day activities. Bring your laptop, tablet or phone!

Presenter: Dawn Monroe is a certified Microsoft Office Specialist, Master level. She has been teaching computer applications to business professionals for over 25 years. She teaches Access, Excel, Office 365, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher, Windows and Word. She also dabbles in Adobe, Google, QuickBooks, WordPress and social media applications as well. Dawn's current passion is advocating for accessibility and universal design in documents and websites. As an independent consultant, she offers public classes, one-on-one consultations, customized small business workshops, speaking engagements for organizations and document solution advice.
