Event description

Description

The 2019 Harvard Program in Therapeutic Science Symposium will explore the role of informatics and data science in biomedical research and the development of therapeutics. This event highlights the work of researchers in the HMS Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology and the wider research community who focus on improving the theoretical framework for designing and testing new medicines and devices.

The HMS Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology is a multi-disciplinary research and education program developing the concepts, technologies and datasets needed to transform how drugs are invented and then used to treat patients. By combining basic, clinical and data science, the LSP is improving how drugs of different types can best be designed to restore normal function to the biological systems whose dysregulation causes disease. The LSP also studies the drug discovery ecosystem itself; it aims for fundamental improvement in how academic and industrial labs identify druggable targets, investigate therapeutic mechanism, stratify patient populations, evaluate clinical trial data and reduce the burden of therapy. This reinvention of therapeutic science is being tested in several of the most challenging therapeutic areas including neurodegeneration, long-term pain, and drug-resistant cancer.

Scientific program followed by poster session and reception.
