Come be a part of the HACKtheWAVE hackathon this weekend, brought to you by Booz Allen Hamilton and Punahou School! This is an event to raise awareness and develop tools to help in the fight against ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Join us and other data science and design-thinking enthusiasts in tackling one of three different challenges: bibliometrics (analyzing published research results to inform research funding decisions), visualizations (creating visual imagery to communicate messages about ALS), and bioinformatics (understanding the biological data).

As part of the weekend's events, we have a brand new, design-focused track that will take place just on Saturday, September 21 from 9:30 am - 1:30 pm at Punahou School, especially for students with no prior coding experience. With help from Punahou faculty, you will design and create an interactive app prototype to solve a real problem.

This FREE 3-day event includes people like YOU who are interested in creating unique design-thinking solutions to generate new ideas to battle ALS, a degenerative and life-threatening neurological disease that currently has no cure.

HACKtheWAVE is open to the community, from professionals to students to amateur data scientists and even those who have been affected by ALS. Everyone is welcome… regardless of coding experience or knowledge of ALS. Punahou School’s Computer Science Department will be conducting the training sessions and leading the bibliometrics track to help novices learn and apply basic coding and design-thinking skills.

We hope to see you there!
