Some problems from previous years.

Grades 1-2

- In one family, a sister and brother, who are not the same age, have a birthday on the same day. Their combined age this year on their birthday is 10 years old. What will be their combined age in five years?

- Write the largest three digit number with all different digits.

Grades 3-4

- A certain type of bacteria splits into two new bacteria in one second. A student noticed that if she puts one bacterium into an empty container, the container will be full in one minute. How much time will it take to fill the container if the student puts two of these bacteria into the empty container?

- What is the value of  (2 x (2 x (2 x (2 x (2 x (2 +1) + 1) +1) +1) +1) +1) ?

Grades 5-6

- Two buses came to the National Mall. The first bus had 45 tourists from Georgia, and the second bus had 45 tourists from Maine. The buses had no free seats. A sudden thunderstorm made all the tourists rush to the buses without paying attention which bus is each. All 90 tourists got inside. A question: were there more Georgia tourists in the bus which originally had only tourists from Maine, or more tourists from Maine in the bus which originally had only tourists from Georgia?

- Maria draws colored birds: first blue, then red, black, and finally, yellow, and then again blue, red, and so on. What will be the color of the 2017th bird?

Grades 7-8.

- A high school class has 25 students. 15 of them take French, 12 take German, and 5 take both French and German? How many students take neither French nor German?

- What is the last digit of the product 7 x 17 x 27 x .... x 2017 ?
