2019 Geneva Forum on climate change at the Human Rights Council

The 2019 Geneva Forum will seek to review the contributions of ten years of work on climate-related issues by the Human Rights Council and related processes focussing on lessons learned and opportunities for further engagement by the Council.
The Geneva Forum will cover the multiple facets of the Council’s work:

initiatives by the HRC itself – resolutions, panel discussions, mandated reports and events,
-
the work of the Special Procedures
-
exchange of views and recommendations during the Universal Periodic Review.
The objective will be take stock of past experiences and offer a synthesis of the lessons learned in a manner that is complementary to initiatives that members of the Human Rights Council are taking themselves.
The Forum will be a day-long event bringing together experts and representatives of intergovernmental organisations, Permanent Missions and civil society organizations.
Discussions at the Forum will :

review the 10 years of action on climate change at the HRC,
-
take stock of the achievements during this period,
-
frame the HRC's work on climate change in the context of other relevant global institutional developments,
-
identify steps to move forward and increase the synergy between the work of the Council and these other processes.

The Geneva Forum will be followed by a reception.
Speakers will include, among others, representatives from the following governments: Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Fiji, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Viet-Nam as well as representatives from the Secretariat to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Leiden University, the Geneva Academy, the Universal Rights Group, Franciscans International and the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development.
