Event description

Description

This is not just another typical training run! Join us for your peak training run as you simulate race day and prepare for the Chicago Marathon - or as you're tapering for the Chicago Half Marathon too! Half Marathoners will run 6.8 miles as you taper down for the Chicago Half Marathon and Marathoners will run up to 20-22 miles as you peak for the Chicago Marathon. After the run, we'll celebrate with a post-race picnic and potluck party to toast the end of the summer running season!

"RACE DAY" EXPERIENCE & POST RUN FFC CHARITY PARTNER PICNIC!
This final long run will be a final big race simulation opportunity, so come prepared... get to sleep early, dial in your pre-race dinner and race morning breakfast, and prepare your clothing & gear just as you would for race day. You'll get race bibs when you check in and have an awesome post-race picnic with food and drinks for all FFC & Charity Partner runners together to celebrate our biggest training day of the year! Runners are also encouraged to bring picnic blankets, chairs, coolers, and snacks to share potluck-style as you celebrate with a fun post-race picnic with your teammates!

PICNIC & POTLUCK + VOLUNTEER FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND TRIATHLETES WELCOME!
The run will end with a celebration picnic and potluck, so please feel welcome to stick around and bring food and drinks to share (optional, food/drinks will be provided for all). Stick around until the last finisher and there will even be raffle prizes for those who stay to cheer each other on! Volunteers are welcome too - so tell your friends and family to come out and join us in supporting athletes with aid stations, roaming bike support by our cyclists and triathletes, directional support, and at the finish line picnic to celebrate your peak training achievements! Please register in advance to volunteer - simply select the appropriate registration option!

TIP #1: PACE SMART WITH HEART!
Running with MyZone or another heart rate monitor? Start slow and aim to negative split by keeping your HR below 80% of Max and focus on your "metabolically efficient" heart rate zone where you can burn fat for fuel!

TIP #2: SIMULATE RACE DAY!
Wear a race belt/bib and any clothing, gear, and nutrition (got enough salt pills and gus?) you plan to use on race day... this is your last chance to simulate a long long run so dial it in like race day!

TIP #3: SLEEP & EAT!
Get to bed early as you would on race day. Plan your pre-race dinner and breakfast and practice what you'll be eating on race weekend - dial it in like race day!
