Event description

Description

The Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence invites you to attend our 36th Fall Conference, Centering Equity In Our Work. The conference will be held on October 3 & 4, 2019. Check-in will begin at 7:30 am each morning with programming beginning at 8:45 am EST. This year's conference will be hosted in a new location, the Renaissance Indianapolis North in Carmel. Rooms are available at the Renaissance for $125 + tax/fees, and can be booked at this link.

Further details about the conference are as follows:

Keynote Speaker
We are excited to welcome two nationally-recognized and dynamic experts in the field of gender-based violence. Dr Candice Norcott, PhD, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist currently serving as an assistant professor in the departments of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neuroscience and Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Chicago. She is a researcher and specialist in gender-responsive trauma-informed service delivery focusing particularly on working with young black girls and girls of color. She has served as a speaker and trainer with the Center for Gender & Justice. Most recently, Dr Norcott appeared on the online series Red Table Talk discussing the R Kelly case and documentary Surviving R Kelly. Her keynote will examine the ways generational trauma and the trauma of intimate partner and sexual violence magnify one another.

Plenary Speaker
Varsha N, JD, is the founder and lead consultant with ROAR Training & Consulting, LLC. She consults and speaks both nationally and internationally on a wide variety of topics including diversity and inclusion, implicit bias, intimate partner violence and sexual assault in diverse communities, and working in multi-cultural and interfaith communities. She is a regular presenter at the End Violence Against Women International conference, and has recently consulted with jurisdictions and communities in Australia, Greece, India, Italy and Queensland. Varsha's plenary address will examine the ways implicit bias shapes and works within the systems we work in.

Workshops
There will be 26 workshops that will fill the two-day agenda. Keynote speaker Dr Candace Norcott will expand her keynote address to examine how our programs must also address generational trauma to meet all survivor needs. Our conference will also welcome national speakers from the Battered Women's Justice Project and the National Network to End Domestic Violence, as well as an extensive list of state and local experts facilitating workshops on topics ranging from Housing First programs and serving survivors with disabilities to creative expression as a human right and sex positive advocacy. A full list of workshops and workshop details is available here.
