Why Budgeting Doesn't Work

Stephanie Holmes-Winton, Founder & CEO, CacheFlo

Traditional budgeting continues to be the go to solution for a cash flow crunch or mounting debt problem, but there is no evidence that most people can actually stick to it over time. The world of personal money management has changed especially over the last 30 years, and budgeting isn't very compatible with electronic spending and the general pace of our lives. Whether or not we mean to it's pretty easy to run out of money before we run out of month. Traditional budgeting simply isn't flexible enough for people today to use effectively for the long term. Not to mention the word budgeting causes most people to feel restricted, and a sense of loss, and gets them to focus on what they can't have.

In this session we'll discuss the pitfalls of traditional budgeting and dig in to why it really doesn't work. We'll also explore how to help people get more life from their money by managing more compatible and sustainable behaviour changes that still flex with their day to day lives. Learn how behaviour based spending management will help people find the money to fund savings accounts, long term investments and pay down debt faster all while funding some of the short term goals that really matter to them right now.

Money is about so much more than math, join the session to explore behaviour based opportunities for financial change that your organization can use as you work to help people improve their financial health.
