Please join us for our 2019 Employer Forum. This is a FREE information and outreach forum designed for employers as an introduction to and overview of Federal and State labor related laws. Registration is required, but all are welcome to attend. In addition to an exhibit area, agencies will provide more detailed information during the following presentations:


8:00am – 8:30am Check In and Exhibits Open

8:30am – 9:30 am Welcome, Introduction, and WHD Presentation

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) - Wage & Hour Division (WHD)

Barton Rode, Wage Hour Investigator

The major provisions of the FLSA – Coverage, Minimum Wage, Overtime, Youth Employment and Record Keeping will be highlighted during this session. In addition, updates relating to the FLSA will be shared in the session including information on our new PAID (Payroll Audit Independent Determination) Program for employers.

9:30am – 10:15am Colorado State Presentation

Colorado Labor Standards Overview & Update – Colorado Division of Labor Standards and Statistics

Eric Yohe, Labor Standards Outreach Program Manager

The Colorado Division of Labor Standards and Statistics will provide a general overview of Colorado wage & hour law as well as review new statutory and regulatory requirements, including the Colorado Chance to Compete Act (Ban the Box) and the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

10:15am – 11:00am OFCCP Presentation

What to Expect: Compliance Reviews – Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP)

Ronald Sullivan, Director of Regional Operations/Acting Denver District Director

OFCCP will provide an overview of the compliance review process The purpose of the overview is to provide the federal and local employers with a better understanding of Federal contractors’ obligations under the three laws OFCCP enforces. We will also share some common trends we are seeing during our reviews.

Harassment/Retaliation - Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)

With news stories dominating the media daily regarding harassment and sexual harassment, please attend the presentation by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission regarding your rights and responsibilities in the workplace. An update regarding what’s going on at EEOC will also be provided.

Introduction to OSHA – Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

John Olaechea, Compliance Assistance Specialist

This session will describe employer rights and responsibilities, OSHA inspection procedures, the direction of current inspection programs, and compliance assistance resources available to employers.

12:45pm – 1:30pm EBSA Presentation

What It Means to Be a Group Health Plan Feduciary - Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA)

Sheri Langdon, Employee Benefits Investigator

This session will increase awareness and understanding about basic fiduciary responsibilities when operating a group health plan. Getting it right, however, can be challenging. This is especially true for small and medium sized employers who have limited time, resources, and access to professional help with benefit programs. Specifically, getting it right means understanding your plan and your responsibilities, carefully selecting and monitoring service providers, making contributions on time, and making appropriate disclosures to plan participants and filing annual reports to the government on time.
