  • Virtual WIL Case Studies- Creative problem-solving are two skills that are highly valued by employers of STEM graduates. We worked with industry professionals, who are also alumni of La Trobe University, to develop Virtual WIL case studies which discuss a complex challenge or problem encountered in the workplace, and how it was resolved. We filmed interviews with the professionals and created video resources for each case study. In class, students analysed these real-world problems and worked collaboratively to generate solutions. In this presentation, we will look at the design of the resources and learning activities and hear from a student about their experience of Virtual WIL.
  • Industry Innovation Challenge - What are benefits and challenges involved in delivering an Innovation Challenge? In this session, Terese Howlett from the Victorian State Emergency Service and Dr Colleen Holt from La Trobe University will discuss the 2019 Industry Innovation Challenge and discuss the benefits of these kinds of programs from both industry partner and university perspectives.
  • 2:30pm-3:15pm Session 3: Career Development Learning presentation and interactive workshop

This interactive presentation will explore career development learning and the role this plays in developing professional or disciplinary identity, employability, and students’ sense of purpose. We will explore some of the resources and services available to embed career development learning into academic programs.

3:15-3:50pm Closing keynote address Amani Bell - IRU Fellow, University of Western Sydney

Presentation Topic: Work integrated learning (WIL) is a practice that has high impact on students’ learning and employability. This presentation will explore the latest findings on what students, universities and employers gain from WIL. I will discuss new models of WIL that better equip students for the changing nature of work, some of which are more accessible for equity groups.
