About this Event

Each year, Forefront Suicide Prevention hosts an inspiring event for young people who are leading innovative suicide prevention efforts in their school communities. This day is about learning, sharing, and showcasing prevention projects that address the second leading cause of death among their age group.

Who Is Invited

  • Students from the Forefront in Schools program and their team advisors.
  • College students engaged in suicide prevention work on their campus.

Special Guests

Dr. James Mazza and Dr. Polo Decano from the University of Washington, Department of Education will be leading activities on resilience, positive psychology and emotion regulation which have been shown to reduce suicide.

Team Showcase Details

Each team will have 7 minutes to present their suicide prevention project. Presentations may include storyboards, overhead projection such as PowerPoint, video and verbal speech. Teams representing the Forefront in Schools program will judge each other’s project for greatest impact. Winner will receive the 2019 Trevor R. Simpson Life Saver Award from Scot and Leah Simpson in memory of their son Trevor, who died by suicide in 1992. The award includes a cash prize of $1,000 to further student efforts in their school communities.

Parking

Parking is available at the University of Washington's Central Parking Garage, located steps away from the School of Social Work.

Please follow the below parking instructions if you choose to park in the Central Parking Garage.

1. Go to the Central Parking Garage parking booth

2. Advise the parking attendee that you have a parking code - "200993"

3. Display your permit face up and visible on your dash. Vehicles are subject to a citation if a permit is not visibly displayed.
