Event description

Description

Our winter SAREX is coming up in February at the Dartmouth Outing Club cabin. We will be driving up on Friday, camping in a heated cabin Friday and Saturday nights, and doing Exercises on Saturday and Sunday. Members should bring a minimum of 24 hour gear with enough food to last through the weekend, we will stop for dinner on the way out on Friday and again on the way back on Sunday, so bring some money for those two meals. Members also need to bring sleeping bags and whatever they need for staying overnight.

Please note: Aircrew need not sign up here because all aircrew activity will be based out of Concord.

Participation Prerequisites

All participants MUST meet the following criteria in order to attend:

  1. Have a current and active CAP membership status. Cadets who are not yet members and seniors who are in pending or patron status are NOT eligible.
  2. Be at minimum a QUALIFIED TRAINEE in the UDF or GTM3 specialty track. This means that you have successfully completed the familiarization and preparation (F&P) tasks and your Commander (or designee) has approved of your training in eServices. [NOTE: UDF and GTM3 are for personnel expecting to participate in the field. Others may participate at mission base with other qualified trainee statuses. Cadets who have recently joined the pod will have the F&P training completed by the time the event starts.]

General Itinerary and Schedule of Events

The following represents the general operational cadence for the event, beginning on Friday and ending on Sunday:

  • Friday Evening - Arrival, Checkin and Base Camp Setup
  • Saturday Morning - All-Hands Mission Briefing
  • Saturday All Day - SAREX Operations
  • Saturday Evening - Dinner, Recreation, Training
  • Sunday Morning - Additional SAREX Tasks
  • Sunday Afternoon - Departure

Food, Lodging and Logistics

Here are some highlight points for planning your attendance at the event:

  • Food - Come prepared with every meal you need to be comfortable during your time at the event. Though prepared food is often available at various points during the event, it is each member's responsibility to come with prepared or easily prepared foodstuffs for every meal (Friday dinner; Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner; Sunday breakfast and lunch). Portable food will likely be necessary on Saturday for lunch, as you'll likely eat in the field.
  • Water - Bring water for the operation. Water refills will be provided, but it is the member's responsibility to have water to start.
  • Clothing -This event is planned for the beginning of January, so be prepared for the cold weather, come with layers and changes of clothing. Hopefully there will be snow on the ground, and your clothes will probably get wet. You will be able to dry them out and relax in warmth at the cabin. Weather can (and sometimes is) drastically different in this area than it is in other parts of New Hampshire. Be prepared. If you aren't sure about what you should bring, ask your unit ES officer for clarification. Also, be sure to check the 72-hour packing list for ground operations for more clarity.
  • Space to Sleep - There is a warm space for all members to sleep. If members would like to sleep outside, they may bring equipment. Whether or not they will be allowed to sleep outside will be taken on a case by case basis on if the equipment is appropriate for the weather. A senior member can at any point take away a cadets privilege to sleep outside. Think of this as a camping trip, and pack accordingly.

If you're on the fence as to whether or not you'll participate, speak to some cadets and seniors who have already participated in previous years. This is a fun event that gets us outdoors, camping, and training in some of the most challenging environment that New Hampshire has to offer.

You must provide a signed Form 31 and Form 161 prior to event.

All questions should be directed to Lt. Wegner, ES Officer"
