Event description

Description

D-Day Conneaut 2019 is open to the public on a limited basis Thursday August 15, and for full visitation Friday August 16 and Saturday August 17, 2019.

PLEASE NOTE:

1. All reenactor attendees must be registered, regardless of whether you plan to participate in a tactical. Children under 12 years of age are not required to be registered.

2. All reenactor attendees must abide by D-Day Ohio safety and authenticity regulations while on site or particpating in event related functions.

3. We welcome reenactors on site as early as Tuesday morning, August 13. As always, we are grateful for those who choose to come early to help with set up.

4. All reenactor participants should enter the site via GROVE STREET (the road through the center of the park) to stop at reenactor check in. Our original entrance on Lake Bluff Drive is the vendor entrance to alleviate traffic congestion.

5. Thursday camp access will be open, but reenactors arriving between 1130 and 1730 must drop off camp equiment and move their vehicle to reenactor parking within 30 minutes of arrival to ensure a smooth flow of traffic while visitors are on site. Driving within the park will also be restricted during this time. We advise groups that typically arrive Thursday to consider planning to arrive before 1200 or at 1700. Friday during programming, there is restricted access to the camps via modern vehicles and for those in the Axis camp, there will be a shuttle for equipment. Reenactor parking will be at the elementary school about a block from the park so please plan accordingly. Shuttles will run on a predertimed schedule that is available at registration.

Additional details:

The Allied and Axis messes will be back in 2019 to provide WWII appropriate fare to reenactors on Friday and Saturday.

A program for local nursing home residents, many of whom are veterans, will take place Thursday from 1200h-1800h. Public demonstrations will be held at predetermined locaitons within the park. Boat rides will be offered to the public and reenactors on Thursday from 1000-1400 . A Thursday night movie in the park will be featured again, weather permitting. Thursday includes the return of "The Drunken Monkey" tiki bar at D-Day Conneaut open 1900h-2300h.

On Friday, Allied soldiers can expect pre-invasion training and practice landings. Classes open to all women reenactors attending the event will occur on both Friday and Saturday; Axis soldiers can also look forward to in-camp training and scenarios. A tactical will be held on the beach at 15:00 featuring armor associated with the landings on the British and Canadian beaches. The Drunken Monkey will be open 1900h-2300h and the Biergarten will be held at Sparkys, within walking distance of the park.

Saturday will be busy as usual but we look forward to additional in-camp activities during the day as well. Check the web site for a full schedule. D-Day Conneaut 2019 will include several social events. Saturday will include the reenactor, volunteer and veteran spaghetti dinner and the USO.

And of course there are the tactical recreations…. We plan a reprise of Foucarville and La Fiere, and will continue the inclusion of a Commonwealth beach for the Landings. Attacks on the Axis stronghold by French Resistance fighters will also occur through both days.
