Citizens’ Climate Lobby Third Coast Regional Conference

Uniting for Climate Solutions

The annual Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL) Third Coast Conference is an opportunity for new and experienced CCL volunteers alike to learn, practice skills, inspire each other, and strategize how to move our country toward solving climate change. Conference participants will:

  • Explore strategies for bridging the political divide
  • Learn how to engage Congress effectively
  • Hear from energy and carbon pricing leaders
  • Examine opportunities that carbon pricing offers the Gulf Coast

Agenda Highlights

  • Bringing Bipartisanship & Transformation to Citizen Advocacy featuring Sam Daley Harris (CCL Advisory Board member)
  • Carbon Pricing & Energy: Good for Industry, Great for Climate featuring:
    --Nick Schulz (Director of Stakeholder Relations, ExxonMobil)
    --Michael Skelly (Founder, Horizon Wind; Founder, Clean Line Energy)
    --Pat Wood III (Principal, Wood3 Resources; fmr PUC Commissioner of Texas; fmr Board of Dynegy)
    --Pam Giblin, Moderator (Senior Policy Advisor, Climate Leadership Council; Partner, Baker Botts)
  • Nine breakout sessions on carbon pricing scenarios, regional economic impacts, messaging in oil & gas communities, social justice engagement, etc.
  • Climate Action Speed Dating to learn about and get involved in regional initiatives
  • Evening Social & Dinner at Axelrad Beer Garden

Who

Whether you are new to CCL or a seasoned volunteer, you'll find something to energize and inspire your climate change advocacy. The Third Coast Region covers Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, but all are welcome - and if you are the parent of a high schooler, bring 'em along!

Food, Lodging, and Logistics

  • Food: light breakfast and hot lunch included, dietary restrictions can be communicated at checkout
  • Lodging:
    --Hilton Hotel directly across from the venue
    --Homestays can be requested at checkout
  • Transport (City Bus): Metro operates several bus lines in and around UH Campus (bus routes and times are updated live on Google Maps)
  • Transport (City Lightrail): Metro's Purple Line station UH South / University Oaks is about an 8 minute walk
  • Transport (Carpooling): tell us if you want to carpool at checkout
  • Transport (Parking): costs $14 for the day; please use the Welcome Center Parking Garage (entrance on southeast side of building on Calhoun Street) and a CCL volunteer will greet you at the entrance

Friday Night Bonus

Get to town early and join fellow attendees on Friday night (2/8) for:

  • A screening of The Human Element, a new film from the Earth Vision Institute
  • Followed by Q&A with James Balog, renowned photographer of environmental change

Minors (under 18) Registration: if you are under the age of 18, or are registering for someone under 18, a signed permission slip must be completed to attend the conference.
