Robbie Burns is a celebrated Scottish poet Robert Burns was born on January 25, 1759 in Alloway, Ayrshire, a son of tenant farmers. He was able to channel his intellectual energy into poetry and song (such as "Auld Lange Syne") to become one of the most famous characters of Scotland's cultural history. He is best known as a pioneer of the Romantic Movement for his lyrical poetry and his rewriting of Scottish folk songs. He died at aged 37 in 1796.

In North America, Burns inspired the likes of John Steinbeck (the title of his novel "Of Mice and Men" was from the poem "To a Mouse") and J. D. Salinger ("Catcher in the Rye" revolved around the Burns poem "Comin' thro' the Rye").

The day of his birth is celebrated today throughout the world as Burns' Night, with Burns' Suppers, poems and songs
