Registration Opens

Registration will open here on Wednesday, January 9 at 12pm Noon Pacific Time.

Where

Option 1 - In Person (registration required): In-person at Hotel Kabuki in the heart of San Francisco's Japantown neighborhood. There's a hotel discount code in the FAQ below. Hotel Kabuki is a 20 minute bus ride on the 38 or 38R line or 15 minute drive from Powell BART Station.

Option 2 - Virtual: Virtually from wherever you are! We will livestream the entire day, including one of breakout sessions (so all day this time!). Registration is optional, the livestream will be publicly available via facebook. Register here to be added to our online community and program for the Symposium. Given our limited in-person capacity, this is a great way to get more folks in your camp engaged and informed.

Who

Theme Camp, Village, Camp in Village, Mutant Vehicle Camp, and Art Support Camp leaders! Registration is primarily directed toward returning camps. If you’ve attended the Symposium before, consider who else in your camp’s leadership may benefit from this event. If you're a new 2019 camp interested in attending in-person, please email campsupport@burningman.org and we'll register you. Anyone can join the livestream.

- Each camp may have up to 2 representatives attend the event.
- We have a mix of registration options - all weekend (Saturday & Sunday), just Saturday, and just Sunday. If you want to go wild and have 2 campers attend only Saturday and 2 different campers attend only Sunday, that’s okay, just make sure to register accurately!
- If we run out of seats, we have a waitlist you may join. As the date gets closer we'll check in so those who are no longer able to join us can open up their seat for someone on the waitlist.

Gifted Event

The Theme Camp Symposium is a gifted event from Burning Man Project! That being said, we had to move to a new venue to ensure we had real separate breakout session rooms and to enable more participants to join. If you're able, we'd appreciate any donations to Burning Man Project to support the Symposium and all our work as a nonprofit! This is totally optional. Suggested donation is $10-$100+ and you can make a donation when you register via Eventbrite. We would love to see how much financial support there is for this event and express our gratitude for helping make this event possible. As a nonprofit organization, we depend on donations to support programs and projects such as the Theme Camp Symposium. To learn more about Burning Man’s nonprofit, you can explore our online Annual Report. Thank you!

Programming

We're doing a survey of what content you want to see until January 11! Fill out the survey here: https://goo.gl/forms/JLmQdFPg3mLCYnIF2

Do you want to volunteer to create or shepherd the Symposium's programming? We’re looking for individuals with background in programming, conferences, workshops, or training. You’ll need to have attended a past Theme Camp Symposium or Theme Camp Forum event as well. Here's the volunteer form due by end of day January 11: https://goo.gl/forms/dyZbEqBwdAo0lHq32

We'll announce the final program in March.

What to bring

- The Theme Camp Symposium is a gift! We've got your coffee, breakfast, and beverage needs covered.
- Bring your fantastic self, a reusable water bottle to reduce waste, a notebook and pen, and default world money for going out to lunch eat day and any drinks at the Saturday evening social hour. The Hotel Kabuki is right next to the Japan Center with tons of delicious, quick meal options for lunch.

We can't wait! <3

FAQs

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the Symposium?

Driving: Hotel Kabuki has all day parking for $23/day or valet for $50. There is street parking in the neighborhood, though the recommendation is not leave anything in the car as San Francisco has a lot of car theft.

Public Transportation: Hotel Kabuki is a 20 minute bus ride on the 38 or 38R MUNI line, which you can catch from Powell BART station. It's also a 10 minute drive from Civic Center BART Station or a 15 minute drive from Powell BART Station.

Are there any discounts on rooms at Hotel Kabuki?

Yes there are! A couple things Hotel Kabuki asked us to tell you. The discount will change based on when you book. If you try to call Hotel Kabuki's reservations it is not considered a “group” so they will not know what “Burning Man” code means. You should book directly online using this link if possible. The Theme Camp Symposium team is unable to help with support on booking a room, that is between you and the hotel. Here is the online booking link: https://gc.synxis.com/rez.aspx?Hotel=59681&Chain=15564&promo=GROUPKABUKI&BRAND=JV&template=JV_RBE&shell=JV_RBE

Is the venue accessible?

Yes, Hotel Kabuki has elevators so everyone can participate in all programming.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Email the Camp Development & Support Team at campsupport@burningman.org

Will the Placement Team be there?

Yes, Placers who are local to the Bay Area attend the Theme Camp Symposium as they are able.

Is it ok if the name on my registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Plesae ensure your registration matches the person who attends. If you need to change your registration to someone else in your camp, please follow these instructions from Eventbrite to change the registration information.

Why do new camps have to email you to register?

Given we have limited space available, we ask you to email us so we can accurately save those spots for new camps. Otherwise if the event is full, people might register in the new camp spots even though they aren't new!

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Nope, we'll have a list at the event of everyone who has registered so we can check you in!

How do I update or cancel my registration information?

If you need to update your information or change your registration to someone else in your camp, please follow these instructions from Eventbrite to change the registration information.

If you need to cancel your registration, please follow these instructions from Eventbrite.
