Event description

Brushy Fork LogoThe 2019 Brushy Fork Leadership Summit brings together community and nonprofit leaders to build skills and make connections to support their work. Brushy Fork is recognized regionally for high quality workshops led by experienced, hands-on presenters. The Leadership Summit continues this tradition of excellence. Held on the beautiful Berea College campus, this event focuses on leadership development and is designed to serve people with a variety of skills and experience. Whether you are the executive leader of a nonprofit organization or a volunteer with a grassroots community group, the Leadership Summit has a workshop track for you! Register today to reserve your spot as spaces in workshop tracks are limited!

This year's tracks include:

Leadership for Community Reconciliation: Explore how to bridge divides in communication and action in our communities by recognizing biases and assumptions. Learn techniques for having or moderating discussions around difficult topics. Led by Monica Jones, Director of the Black Cultural Center, Berea College, and Leslie Stone, Leadership and Community Development Consultant, Stone Strategies in West Virginia.

Personal Leadership Development: Explore your natural strengths as a leader and learn how personality types affect communication and conflict styles. Led by Heather Schill, Director of Organizational Learning and Practice, Berea College's Partners for Education.

Using Data for Effective Leadership: Learn how to gather, use, and community data to strengthen your efforts in community development. Led by Dr. Randy Stoecker, Professor of Community and Environmental Sociology at University of Wisconsin.

Leadership for Strategic Community Results: Back by popular demand, this workshop track explores how to create a vision, build trust, and engage the broader community in development efforts. Led by Dr. Vaughn Grisham, Director Emeritus of the McLean Institute for Public Service and Community Engagement.

Executive Nonprofit Leadership: Explore executive level strategy for operating a nonprofit, creating and communicating a strategic vision, creating a leadership succession plan, and executive communication with funders and supporters. Led by Aimee Russillo of Liseed Consulting and Lee Ellen Martin, Fundraising Consultant and Executive Director of the Explorium.

Women and Leadership: Explore the unique leadership gifts and challenges women encounter, articulate your leadership goals, receive pointers on balancing responsibility with self-care, and consider how to seek and be a mentor.
