Description

Join us for our annual Alternative Crops and Organics Day in the morning and the Mountain Research Station Field Day in the late afternoon. You are welcome to attend one or both! We would appreciate it if you would register for the morning session so we know how many people to prepare for. If you fail to do so, however, please come anyway. We don't want you to miss out. No preregistration is required for the afternoon field day.

Here are the details for the Alternative Crops and Organics Day:

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE STARTING AND ENDING AT THE HAYWOOD COUNTY EXTENSION CENTER, NOT AT THE RESEARCH STATION! THEY ARE RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM EACH OTHER. THERE WILL BE SIGNS. THE EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE RAIN OR SHINE, SO COME PREPARED.

8:15 AM Registration opens at the Haywood County Extension Center in the auditorium on the right side of the building. Please park in this parking lot there.

9:00 AM Walk across the street and load up on the trams for the field tour

9:00 AM to 10:40 AM We will tour and discuss our research on Breeding Hops for the Southeast, the East Coast Broccoli Project, the Black Perigord Truffle Orchards, and the Southeast Organic Vegetable Project.

10:40 to 10:55 AM Soil Health Sampling Demonstration and Fertility Comparison in the Organic Unit.

10:55 AM Walk back across the street to the auditorium for refreshments and the comfort of the auditorium

11:15 to 12:15 PM Soil Health Presentation and discussion led by Chris Leek, agronomist (indoors)

This ends the Alternative Crops and Organics Day. You are free to leave and get lunch and return for the Mountain Research Station Field Day which begins at 1:30 pm.
