TARGET AUDIENCE

This conference is intended for Allina Health physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and health care professionals who provide pain management. This is for internal Allina Health employees ONLY.

COURSE OVERVIEW

The Pain Symposium is designed to provide guidance in the interpretation and application of guidelines for prescribing and treating pain and will include education on improving communication while discussing pain with patients and other providers.The conference will provide attendees with legal and legislative updates in pain management, pharmacy, alternative pain treatments as well as assist in the identification of abuse and misuse.

Learning Objectives

• Identify current guidelines in prescribing opiods for pain.
• Describe interpersonal techniques for effective communication surrounding pain.
• Express compassion and empathy while creating a safe pain management plan.
• Identify multimodal and holistic treatments for pain management..
• Use resources for assessing and treating pain in patients with substance abuse or misuse.
