Event description

Description

The primary emphasis of this clinic is developing wind reading skills and strategies. Success in long-range shooting is requires the ability to read the wind, rapid decision making and strong marksmanship fundamentals. It is an art that is never fully mastered and the only way to become proficient at reading the wind is to shoot in it. Other than short introductions and a safety briefing, the clinic will be spent on the range. This clinic is not a “sniper” experience - it is structured to instruct and allow attendees to develop wind-reading skills applicable in all forms of shooting.

The instructors for this clinic have been recruited from some of the best long-range competition shooters in the United States (for more information see below). There will be one coach for every two shooters on the firing line. He/she will help each shooter get set up properly, and then watch them through the firing of each shot. The coaches will talk their two shooters through every shot and how the winds will affect the flight of the bullet. Shooters will rotate between the firing line and pits. At each turn on the firing line, every shooter will work with a new coach. This will provide every participant with a variety of perspectives on long-range shooting.

Attendees should expect low to moderate activity levels for this course. All of the shooting will be from 1,000 yard firing line (which is covered with pea-gravel ground covering), and from the prone position. Your vehicle will be parked directly behind the firing line and immediately accessible, so bring anything you think you might possibly need. There will be water available while pulling targets in the pits, but you should bring water/sports drinks to stay hydrated. A BBQ lunch is included as part of the clinic fees, as well as the opportunity to stay and shoot in the 3x600 match on Sunday 21 Apr 2019 (3x600 match fees will be covered by your Long Range clinic fee).

This clinic will be a tremendous opportunity to learn from some of the best marksmen in the United States. We currently have coaches from: U.S. National Long-Range Rifle Team, U.S. Palma Team, U.S. Veterans Team, U.S. F-Class Team, NBRSA National Champions, NBRSA Hall of Fame, U.S. F-Class National Champion, U.S. Palma National Champion, U.S. Service Rifle Rattle-Battle Champions, U.S. Service Rifle National Champions, and winners of multitudes of State Championships throughout the U.S. Many are also Distinguished Riflemen. There have only been 2,435 numbered Distinguished Rifleman Badges awarded in the last 135 years. We expect to have at least 15 of those recipients instructing at this clinic, and many others helping run it.

Check-in time is 6:45-7:15am Saturday. After check-in, you will receive the safety brief, event brief, and be on the line by 8am.
